The Cold Spring Silver Springers won the 2017 MSMABA Class A State Championship on Sunday evning with a convincing 11-1 victory over the Jordan Millers in Jordan.  The offense collected 10 hits and played solid defense behind Joe Kounkel, who pitched his second complete game victory of the weekend.  He allowed one run on five hits, no walks, and struck out four.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring erupted for five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back.  Greg Terres struck out, but reached first on a wild pitch; Rod Schafer sacrificed Terres to second and reached on an error; Greg Bemboom walked to load the bases; Todd Steil singled home Terres and Schafer; and Mike Arnold hit a home run to left to score Bemboom and Steil.  The Silvers added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 9-0.  Steil walked and later went to second on a wild pitch; Chad Hess singled Steil to third; [Brent Schloe] singled home Steil; Hess went to third and Schloe went to second on a wild pitch; Derek Falde doubled home Hess and Schloe; and Todd Van Erp doubled home Falde.  Jordan scored their lone run in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 9-1, but Cold Spring put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Andy Auger singled; Terres doubled Auger to third; Bemboom reached on an error that scored Auger; and Steil doubled home Terres to make the final score 11-1 in favor of the Silvers.
