The #1-seed Cold Spring Silver Springers lost a heart-breaking game in the opening round of the Class AA-A MSMABA state tournament on Saturday night in Alexandria, falling 8-4 to the #16-seed Searles Bullheads.  Trailing 4-2 withe one out in the top of the seventh inning, Searles rallied for six runs on six hits and a walk to steal the win from the Silvers.  Searles outhit Cold Spring 10-9 as well, while the Silvers fell victim to some bad luck with a number of hard hit outs and nice defensive plays by the Bullheads.  Andy Auger took the loss on the mound.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring got on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.  Derek Falde reached on an error; Greg Bemboom doubled Falde to third; Todd Steil hit a sacrifice fly to score Falde and advance Bemboom to third; and Mike Arnold hit a sacrifice fly to score Bemboom.  Searles responded with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game, but the Silvers relcaimed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 4-2.  Falde singled; Bemboom doubled Falde to third; Steil hit a sacrifice fly to score Falde; and Brent Schloe singled home Bemboom.  In the top of the seventh, however, and after the leadoff batter was retired, Searles collected two singles, a walk, two more singles, a double, and another single to plate six runs and take the lead 8-4.  Cold Spring tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, but left two men on before the final out was made.
