The Cold Spring Silver Springers defeated the Alexandria Classic Clippers 4-0 on Saturday in a league game at Springer Park in Cold Spring. The offense only managed seven hits in the game, but the defense was perfect and Joe Kounkel pitched a complete game shutout on the mound. He allowed just four hits, walked one, and struck out two.
Scoring Summary:
Cold Spring got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and that would prove to be all they'd need. Brent Schloe walked; Todd Van Erp sacrificed Schloe to second; Troy Schroeder singled; and Greg Terres tripled home Schloe and Schroeder to make the score 2-0. The Silvers tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Mike Arnold doubled, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on an error to give the home team a 3-0 lead. Cold Spring scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Derek Falde singled, Schloe doubled him to third, and Schroeder hit a sacrifice fly to score Falde and give the Silvers a 4-0 victory.
