The Cold Spring Silver Springers won the first game of their league doubleheader against the Becker Buzzards 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Springer Park. The team only managed five hits in the game, but that was enough as Joe Kounkel pitched a complete game shutout on the mound. He allowed just three hits and struck out two.
Scoring Summary:
Cold Spring struck first for a run in the bottom of the second inning, and that would prove to be all they'd need. Mike Arnold doubled and scored on a single by Tim Martin to make the score 1-0. The Silvers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull away for good. Derek Falde reached on a fielder's choice; Rod Schafer reached and advanced to second on an error, with Falde going to third; and Arnold singled Falde and Schafer home to make the final score 3-0 in favor of Cold Spring.
