The Cold Spring Silver Springers kicked off the 2017 season with a 9-0 victory over the Class C St. Nicholas Nicks on Wednesday night at Springer Park. The offense collected 14 hits in the game while five pitchers - Joe Kounkel, Tim Martin, Andy Auger, Dave Hinkemeyer, and Todd Steil - combined on a 3-hit shutout. Kounkel was given credit for the win.

Cold Spring scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 4-0 lead and never looked back. Greg Terres doubled; Rod Schafer singled Terres to third; Greg Bemboom singled home Terres; Schafer stole third and Bemboom stole second; Auger singled home Schafer and Bemboom; Derek Falde reached on an error to advance Auger to second; Auger went to third and Falde to second on a wild pitch; and Brent Schloe hit a sacrifice fly to score Auger. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Silvers struck for three more runs to make the score 7-0. Schloe reached on an error; Martin singled Schloe to second; Schloe went to third and Martin to second on a wild pitch; Ron Terres walked to load the bases; Troy Schroeder singled home Schloe and Martin; Terres went to third and Schroeder to second on a wild pitch; and Kounkel reached on a fielder's choice to score Terres. Cold Spring added their final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Bemboom walked; Mike Arnold reached on an error to advance Bemboom to second; Falde singled to score Bemboom, with Arnold being thrown out at third and Falde advancing to second on the play; and Schloe singled home Falde to make the final score 9-0 in favor of the home team.
