The Cold Spring Silver Springers won the Class AA 2016 MSMABA State Tournament on Sunday night be defeating the top-seeded and previoulsy undefeated Burnsville Bulldogs 6-5 at the Mini Met in Jordan.  The win gave the Silvers their fifth state title in the past seven seasons.  The offense collected twelve hits in the game while the pitching and defense held off mutliple Burnsville rallies.  Andy Auger earned the victory on the mound with five strong innings of work.  He allowed three runs on five hits, three walks, and one strikeout.  Todd Steil pitched the final two innings for the save.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring struck first for a run in the top of the second inning for a 1-0 lead.  Steil reached first on a fielder's choice and went to second on an error before being singled home by Brent Schloe.  The Silvers added another run in the top of the third inning when Greg Terres launched his first home run of the season deep over the left field fence to make the score 2-0.  Burnsville responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead in half at 2-1, but Cold Spring came back with four runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend their lead.  Todd Geislinger singled; Steil singled; Schloe singled home Geislinger and, on the play, Steil scored and Schloe ended up on second after two throwing errors; Todd Van Erp singled pinch runner Troy Schroeder to third; Terres singled home Schroeder; a throwing error later in the inning advanced Van Erp to third; and Mike Arnold singled home Van Erp to give the Silvers a 6-1 lead.  Burnsville was not down, however, as they rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and another two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 6-5, but that was how the game ended with the Silvers taking home the victory and the state title.
