The Cold Spring Silver Springers advanced to the semi-finals of the AA bracket in the 2016 MSMABA State Tournament with a 6-3 victory over the #11 seed Prior Lake Mariners on Sunday afternoon in Alexandria.  The offense collected 10 hits in the game, the defense was flawless, and Joe Kounkel overcame a questionable strikezone to pick up the win on the mound.  He pitched all seven innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring scored three times in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 3-0 lead.  Greg Terres reached second on an error; Greg Bemboom singled home Terres; Mike Arnold doubled home Bemboom; and Todd Geislinger singled home Arnold.  Prior Lake scored a run in the top of the third inning to make the score 3-1, but the Silvers responded with two runs in teh bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 5-1.  Brent Schloe led off with a double; pinch runner Troy Schroeder went to third on a wild pitch; Terres walked and then stole second; and Bemboom singled home Schroeder and Terres.  The Mariners came back with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-3, but Cold Spring again came back with a run in the bottom of the inning.  Geislinger singled; pinch runner Rod Schafer went to second on a wild pitch; Derek Falde sacrificed Schaefer to third; Andy Auger walked; and Schloe singled home Schafer to make the final score 6-3 in favor of the Silver Springers.
