The Cold Spring Silvers Springers defeate the Fort Ripley Silver Rebels 8-0 in the first game of their league doubleheader on Sunday morning in Cold Spring.  The offense collected 13 hits in the game, albeit all singles, while Joe Kounkel and Dave Hinkemeyer combined on the shutout on the mound.  Kounkel earned the win by pitching six innings, allowing no runs on four hits, no walks, and he struck out six.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.  Greg Terres singled and promptly stole second; Steve Huls singled home Terres; Greg Bemboom singled; Huls stole third, and Bemboom stole second; Huls stole home and Bemboom went to third; Todd Steil was hit by a pitch; and Todd Geislinger singled home Bemboom.  The Silvers added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the game open.  Tim Martin singled and then stole second; Brent Schloe singled home Martin; Todd Van Erp singled; Troy Schroeder singled to load the bases; and Terres singled home Schloe and Van Erp to make the score 6-0.  Cold Spring added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead.  Chad Hess walked and stole second; Geislinger singled home Hess and ended up on third after two wild pitches; Martin walked; and Geislinger scored after Schloe reached on a fielder's choice to make the final score 8-0 in favor of Cold Spring.
