The Cold Spring Silver Springers won the first game of their league doubleheader against Becker Buzzards by a score of 8-0 on Sunday afternoon at Springer Park.  The offense pounded out 13 hits in the game, the defense committed no errors, and the pitching was solid.  Joe Kounkel picked up the complete game victory on the mound, allowing no runs on three hits, three walks, and six strikeouts.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring struck for a run in the bottom of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead after Greg Terres doubled, went to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.  The Silvers struck again in the bottom of the second inning for another run when Andy Auger doubled and scored on a single by Todd Geislinger to make the score 2-0.  In the bottom of the third inning, Cold Spring blew the game open with four runs to take a comfortable 6-0 lead.  Kounkel singled; Terres singled; Greg Bemboom tripled home Kounkel and Terres; Mike Arnold singled home Bemboom and later went to second on a wild pitch; and Derek Falde singled home Arnold.  Cold Spring tacked on a seventh run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Kounkel reached on a fielder's choice, went to second on a Terres single, and scored on an error later in the inning.  The Silvers scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth inning after Geislinger reached on an error, Brent Schloe singled, and Todd Van Erp singled home Geislinger to make the final score 8-0 in favor of Cold Spring.
