The Cold Spring Silver Springers were victorious by a score of 5-2 in the first game of their league doubleheader against the Alexandria Classic Clippers on a windy Sunday afternoon at Springer Park.  The Silvers pounded out 11 hits in the game (all singles) and Joe Kounkel picked up the win on the mound with a complete game effort.  He allowed two runs on five hits, and one walk.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.  Greg Bemboom singled; Derek Falde sacrificed Bemboom to second; Chad Hess singled Bemboom to third; Hess stole second and the throw bounced off of him, allowing Bemboom to score from third; and Tim Martin later singled home Hess.  Alexandria scored a run in the top of the second inning to cut the lead in half, but Cold Spring scored three more times in the bottom of the fourth inning to open op their lead a bit.  Martin singled and went to second on an error; Brent Schloe singled Martin to third; Mike Arnold singled home Martin; an error later in the inning allowed Schloe to score and Arnold to go to third; and Falde singled home Arnold go make the score 5-1.  The Classic Clippers scored their other run in the top of the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Silvers won the game 5-2.
