The Cold Spring Silver Springers started the 2016 season with a solid 8-2 win over the Class C Roscoe Rangers on Saturday night at Springer Park.  The offense mustered eight hits in the game, the defense was a little bit sloppy at times, and Joe Kounkel did his usual on the mound by pitching a complete game for the victory.  He allowed two unearned runs on five hits, no walks, and he struck out eight.

Scoring Summary:

The Silvers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning for a quick 2-0 lead.  Greg Bemboom reached on an error, Chad Hess singled, a groundout advanced both runners into scoring position, and Todd Geislinger delivered a single to score Bemboom and Hess.  Roscoe tied the game at 2-2 with two unearned runs in the top of the third inning thanks to two Cold Spring errors, but the home team responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead back and for good.  Greg Terres doubled; Bemboom singled home Terres; Hess reached on a bunt single; Geislinger walked to fill the bases; Derek Falde reached on a fielder's choice that brought home Bemboom; and Falde and Hess pulled off a double-steal, with Hess scoring on the play to make the score 5-2.  Cold Spring added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bemboom walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Hess single.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Silvers increased their lead to 7-2 when Geislinger singled, went to second and then third on consecutive groundouts, and later scored on an error.  The Silver Springers scored one last time in the bottom of the sixth inning when Terres walked, Bemboom walked, and Mike Arnold singled home Terres to make the final score 8-2 in favor of Cold Spring.
