The Cold Spring Silver Springers advanced to the Class AA bracket championship game of the MSMABA state tournament with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday evening in Belle Plaine.  The offense only managed five hits in the game, but error-free defense and great pitching by Russ Huls helped the Silvers come away with the win.  Huls pitched all seven innings, scattering five hits, one walk, and he had five strikeouts.  The shutout was the team's third straight in the tournament, which covers a span of 19 innings.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning when Todd Van Erp singled and scored on a double by Rod Schafer for a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second inning, Chad Hess walked, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Derek Falde, and scored on a double by Todd Geislinger to make the score 2-0.  The Silvers then added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead.  Greg Bemboom doubled and later went to second on a wild pitch; Schafer walked; and, as Schafer stole second, the errant throw allowed Bemboom to score to make the final score 3-0 in favor of Cold Spring.
