The Cold Spring Silver Springers opened up the 2015 Minnesota Senior Men's Amateur Baseball State Tournament with a 10-0 victory over the Belle Plaine Gray Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Belle Plaine.  The offense collected 11 hits, the defense committed no errors, and Joe Kounkel faced just two batters over the minimum on the mound to pick up the complete game shutout win.  He allowed no runs on two hits, one walk, and struck out four.  With the victory, the Silvers remained in the Class AA bracket of the state tournament.

Scoring Summary:

The Silvers took a 2-0 lead after an inning of play and never looked back.  Bill Theis walked; an errant pickoff attempt allowed Theis to advance to third; Steve Huls doubled home Theis; and Greg Terres singled home Huls.  In the bottom of the second inning, Cold Spring extended their lead to 4-0 with two more runs.  Brent Schloe reached on a fielder's choice; Theis singled Schloe to third; Huls singled home Schloe while an error on the play allowed Theis to score as well.  The Silvers tacked on another run in the bottom of the third inning when Terres singled, stole second, and scored on a singled by Derek Falde to make the score 5-0.  Cold Spring blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored five more times on five hits and two walks.  Schloe singled; Theis reached on a fielder's choice to force Schloe at second, but was injured on the play and replaced by Todd Van Erp; Huls walked; Greg Bemboom walked to fill the bases; Rod Schafer singled home Van Erp and Huls; Chad Hess doubled home Bemboom and Schafer; a passed ball advanced Hess to third; and Falde singled home Hess to make the score 10-0.  The game was ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule in favor of the Silver Springers.
