The Cold Spring Silver Springers defeated the Alexandira Classic Clippers 7-4 in the first game of their league doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Alexandria.  The offense collected 14 hits in the game and Joe Kounkel picked up the complete game victory on the mound despite allowing his first earned runs of the season.  He gave up four runs on 11 hits, two walks, and had five strikeouts.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the first inning.  Steve Huls doubled; Greg Bemboom singled home Huls; Greg Terres doubled home Bemboom; and Andy Auger singled home Terres.  The Silvers added another run in the top of the third inning when Huls singled, stole second, and scored on another double by Terres.  Alexandria got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 4-1 and ended Kounkel's scoreless inning streak at 26 1/3 innings.  However, the Silver Springers came right back with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 6-1.  Terres singled and then stole second; Mike Arnold doubled home Terres; an error advanced Arnold to third; and Todd Geislinger singled to score Arnold.  The Classic Clippers scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 6-2, but Cold Spring scored that run right back in the top of the seventh inning after Huls doubled and Bembbom singled him home.  Alexandria scored two more times in the bottom of the inning to cut into the lead, but the Silver Springers prevailed 7-4.
