The Cold Spring Silver Springers won the first game of their 'Up North' trip on Saturday with an 11-0 victory over the Verndale Geezers in Verndale.  The Silvers only had 11 players make the trip, but the team was still able to collect 15 hits on offense while Russ Huls pitched excellent on the mound in his first start of the season.  He allowed no runs on just one, one walk, and struck out four over his five innings of work.  Dave Hinkemeyer pitched the final two innings to complete the shutout.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring got on the board with a run in the top of the third inning after Bill Theis walked, stole second and went to third on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Greg Bemboom.  In the top of the fourth inning, the Silvers broke the game open by scoring five times on three hits and a little help from two Verndale errors.  Derek Falde singled; Andy Auger singled; Huls walked; Theis doubled home Falde and Auger and advanced Huls to third; Bemboom walked to load the bases; Rod Schafer reached on a fielder's choice that forced Huls out at home, but kept the bases loaded; an infield fly rule pop-up was misplayed that allowed Theis to score; and a fly ball to right-center on the very next play was misplayed that allowed Bemboom and Schafer to score and increase Cold Spring's lead to 6-0.  The Silver Springers scored two more times in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 8-0.  Bemboom, Schafer, and Greg Terres all singled to load the bases; Todd Geislinger hit a sacrifice fly to score Bemboom and advance Schafer to third; and Brent Schloe singled home Schafer.  Cold Spring scored their final three runs of the game in the top of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.  Falde doubled; Auger walked; Huls walked to load the bases; a wild pitch plated Falde and advance Auger and Huls up a base; Theis walked to re-load the bases; a double play scored Auger; and Schafer singled to score Huls and make the final score 11-0 in favor of the Silver Springers.
