The Cold Spring Silver Springers returned to action after a 2-week break to defeat the Becker Buzzards 8-1 in the first game of their league doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Springer Park.  The offense pounded out 11 hits, the defense was sharp despite the layoff, and Andy Auger pitched all seven innings for the win.  He allowed one run on six hits, two walks, and struck out four.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring scored right away in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead after Steve Huls walked, went to second on a double steal attempt, and scored on a singled by Greg Terres.  In the bottom of the third inning, the Silvers opened the game up with five more runs to take a commanding lead.  Greg Bemboom singled and later went to third on an error; Huls singled home Bemboom; Mike Arnold singled Huls to third and then stole second; Terres walked to load the bases; Auger reached on a fielder's choice that scored Huls; Terres stole third and Auger stole second; Brent Schloe singled home Terres and moved Auger to third; Auger scored and Schloe went to third on a wild pitch; and Schloe came home on another wild pitch to make the score 6-0.  Becker scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-1, but the Silver Springers added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.  Todd Geislinger doubled; Todd Van Erp walked; a flyout advanced Geislinger to third and Van Erp went to second on the throw; and Darren Heying doubled home both runners to help give the Silvers an 8-1 victory.
