The Cold Spring Silver Springers improved to 9-1 (6-0 league) as they completed a doubleheader sweep over the Alexandria Classic Clippers by winning 10-0 on Sunday afternoon at Springer Park.  The offense continued to sputter as the Silvers only collected six hits in the game, but they were able to take advantage of five Alexandria errors and five walks.  On the mound, Joe Kounkel hurled his second consecutive complete game shutout and the team's second shutout of the day by scattering four hits, one walk, and striking out six.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring scored right away in the bottom of the first inning with a run and that proved to be all they'd need for the game.  Bill Theis reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a flyout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Todd Steil.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Silvers doubled their lead to 2-0 when Greg Terres singled, stole second, stole third, and scored on an error.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Silver Springers blew the game open as they scored eight times on just four hits, but had the help of three Alexandria errors and a couple of walks.  Steil reached on an error; Terres walked; John Theis reached on an error that scored Steil and advanced Terres to third; Todd Van Erp walked to load the bases; Kounkel singled home Terres; Bill Theis reached on an error that scored John Theis, advanced Van Erp to third, and Kounkel to second; Van Erp scored, Kounkel went to third, and Bill Theis went to second on a wild pitch; Greg Bemboom was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases; Mike Arnold doubled home Kounkel and Bill Theis and advanced Bemboom to third; Steil singled to score Bemboom and advanced Arnold to third; and Terres singled home Arnold to make the score 10-0 in favor of the Silver Springers.  The game was then ended due to the 10-run rule.
