The Cold Spring Silver Springers defated the Fort Ripley Silver Rebels 14-4 in the first game of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Springer Park.  The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.  The offense pounded out 12 hits in the game and Andy Auger pitched five strong innings to come away with the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs on six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

Scoring Summary:

Fort Ripley got on the board in the top of the first inning with an unearned run, but Cold Spring responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.  Bill Theis doubled and later went to third on a passed ball; Rod Schafer hit a sacrifice fly to score Theis; Greg Terres was hit by a pitch and later stole second; and Chad Hess singled Terres home to make the score 2-1.  In the bottom of the second inning, the Silver Springers added to their lead with three more runs.  Todd Steil singled; Auger doubled Steil to third; Theis reached on a fielder's choice that scored Steil; Greg Bemboom walked to fill the bases; and Schafer singled home Auger and Theis to give Cold Spring a 5-1 lead.  The Silver Springers kept adding to their lead with another four runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Todd Geislinger walked; Steve Huls singled Geislinger to third; Steil singled to score Geislinger; Auger walked to load the bases; a wild pitch scored Huls and advanced Steil and Auger; and Theis doubled home Steil and Auger to make the score 9-1.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, Cold Spring tacked on five more runs to open up a 14-1 lead.  Hess singled; Mike Arnold singled; both runners advanced on a wild pitch; Geislinger singled home Hess; Huls walked to load the bases; Steil reached on a fielder's choice that scored Arnold, while an error on the play scored Geislinger as and advanced Huls to third; Auger singled in Huls; and an error later in the inning scored Steil.  Fort Ripley rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 14-4, but Cold Spring came away with the victory by way of the 10-run rule.
