The Silver Springers opened league play with a 10-2 victory over the Becker Buzzards Saturday afternoon at the Becker Athletic Complex.  The offense collected 10 hits in the game while Joe Kounkel and Andy Auger combined to shut down Becker on the mound.  Kounkel pitched four perfect innings for his first win of the season while Auger pitched the last three innings for his first save.

Scoring Summary:

Cold Spring got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning.  Greg Terres tripled; Todd Geislinger reached on an error to score Terres; Brent Schloe singled Geislinger to third; John Theis reached on catcher's interference to load the bases; and Auger grounded out to score Geislinger.  The Silvers added three more runs in the top of the third inning to open their lead to 5-0.  Todd Van Erp doubled; Bob Kleefsaas singled Van Erp to third and then stole second; Greg Bemboom singled home Van Erp and Kleefsaas; and Rod Schafer doubled home Bemboom.  In the top of the fourth inning, Cold Spring struck again for two more runs when Schloe singled, John Theis walked, both runners advanced on an Auger groundout, and then both runners scored on an error off the bat of Kounkel to make the score 7-0.  Cold Spring added three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead.  Auger walked; Kounkel reached on an error; Kleefsaas doubled home Auger and moved Kounkel to third; and Bemboom delivered another 2-run single to score Kounkel and Kleefsaas.  Becker scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 10-2 in favor of the Silvers.
