The Cold Spring Silver Springers opened the 2015 season with a 10-2 exhibition victory over the Class C St. Wendel Saints on Saturday afternoon at Springer Park. The Silvers combined for 15 total hits in the game, including six for extra bases. Newcomers Andy Auger and Joe Kounkel pitched well in their first appearances for the team, combining to allow no earned runs on seven hits and seven strikeouts while walking one.

Scoring Summary:

The Silver Springers got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second inning when Greg Terres doubled, advanced to third on a flyout, and scored on an infield single by Brent Schloe. In the bottom of the fourth, the Silvers opened the game up with five runs on six consecutive hits. Greg Bemboom singled; Mike Arnold doubled Bemboom to third; Rod Schafer singled home Bemboom; Terres singled home Arnold; Todd Geislinger tripled to score Terres and Arnold; and Schloe singled home Geislinger to make the score 6-0. Cold Spring then added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead.  Darren Heying walked; Auger reached on an error; Todd Van Erp singled in Heying; John Theis reached on an error that scored Auger; Bemboom walked to load the bases; and Arnold was walked to force home Van Erp. The Saints scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 9-2, but the Silvers added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame after Schloe doubled and Bill Theis singled him in to make the final score 10-2 in favor of the home team.
